The Travelling Cinema by a Group of Friends

The members of Caravan, a group of friends, are mutually strengthened by their travels and the opportunity to experience the richness of their surroundings to their heart's content. Their open-air cinema is embedded in all types of landscape, so that they create environments —agile and flexible— and build complicities with the people and the culture they discover on their journey through the geography of Japan: in particular, the Zushi region. They trace their path in order to "share with everyone the sense of awareness that improves our society".

Cinema Caravan has linked its participation in documenta fifteen to the artist Takashi Kuribayashi, whose individual work over the years we recommend. The proposal of this group of artists in Kassel is based on the motto "make friends, not art". Consequently, its realisation could only be a space designed to bring about personal, pure and disinterested affection between different people. 

They have created a series of works grouped around an open-air cinema and also installed a bar. Building on earlier work by Kuribayashi, include a herbal steam sauna with the physiognomy of the Fukushima nuclear reactor, and a mobile food stand to create spontaneous communal places, among other elements. All of this is intended to make Kassel a further step towards a less bad stage of our "unpredictable" society.
