EL APARTAMENTO

Calle de la Puebla, 4, local bajo derecha. Madrid. Spain

The project, curated by Omar López-Chahoud for El Apartamento in Madrid, presents a selection of young Spanish artists around an analysis of the most recent trends in Conceptual Art. The curator highlights the new artistic lines through the work by Álvaro Chior, Bisíla Noha, Christian Lagata, Esther Gatón, Fuentesal Arenillas, Iñaki Domingo, Jimena Kato, Kiko Pérez and Tamara Arroyo.

The core of the exhibition lies in reflecting on the strategies of conceptual dismantling and personal exploration developed by these artists when questioning the essential aspects of human existence. The curator makes visible a type of practice that insists on the crossover between different fields of knowledge such as anthropology, archaeology, cultural studies, architecture, design, and linguistics; that crosses different media or artistic languages and explores the possibilities of the art-object as a new type of historical archive; that focuses on the abstraction of concepts fundamental to contemporary culture and, at the same time, revises our notions of the abstract from a poetic approach. This allows us to venture into the enunciation of concepts such as post-conceptualism and post-abstraction. The exhibition also reveals the cultural concerns and socio-political obsessions of the new generations of Spanish artists.
